Walked the Freedom Trail with my parents. It’s the first time I walked the whole thing (minus the USS Constitution). We had dinner outside at a great place in the North End. It started raining, but we were under a canopy, so we didn’t get wet. Afterward, we went to an improv comedy place down the street. It was really good, and the ending number “Jesus Christ Superstore” was one of the funniest things I’ve ever witnessed. Afterward, we chilled at the Rag and they went back to their hotel to leave the next morning.

Day the third of my parents’ visit. Walked around Gloucester for a while, it’s quite nice. We drove back and went to lunch at the cafe place just down the street from my apartment. Then we parted for a few hours so they could clean up, and then Nat and Jacob came over and we chilled on my roof. Then we went and had a sandwich at Nino’s down the street. Afterward, Nat and Jacob and I tried to go to Cafe Pamplona, but they were closed. So we went to Charlie’s for about 15 seconds, but it was packed, hot as hell, smokey, and none of us was in the mood to be there. So we eventually ended up at the House of Blues. Some interesting chats…

More parental action. I skipped work and went with them to Glocester to see my uncle Buddy and aunt Mary. Also saw my cousins Jessica and Jeannie. We went to their restaurant, McT’s, and had a great dinner. We were going to drive home, but my parents got a flat tire on their way to Boston and had driven about 300 miles on fix-a-flat. Since I don’t drive in the city, I had no idea where they could take the car to get a new tire, but uncle Buddy knew of a place, but they couldn’t get the tire until the next day. So, we just stayed there instead.

Parents drove into town today. We had dinner with Vlad, Ian, and Jason at Mary’s. It was good. Afterward, they went back to their hotel.

Had dinner on the roof of the Cave with Nat, Patrick, Taylor, Kaily (misspelt), Dave, and some guy I had never met before (Tom, I think?): swordfish steaks, potato salad, corn on the cob, salad, and strawberry shortcake. I exploded.

Afterward, Nat, Patrick, Tom and I went to the Wonderbar in Allston. It’s a pretty cool jazz bar, but it looks like it was picked up from Harvard Square and dropped in Allston. Not the sort of thing you expect there… anyway, it was a good time… nothing really of note happened… but then again, I am writing this a couple weeks since then… sigh.

Today’s edict: Dude, we gotta finish these fucking kegs.

Big party at the cave. Went quite well, and even some egg people1 showed up. Good time, but we had waaaaaay too much booze, especially beer. The cave was nice and cool for a while until about 80-100 people were there, and then the party moved to the roof shortly thereafter. The retroscope2 was going as well.

1 A dozen eggs were obtained and the URL of the party (www.assbarn.com/party) were written on them. Then these eggs were swapped for eggs in cartons of grocery and convenience stores throughout Boston, Cambridge, and Brookline. From the server logs, we estimate that about 6 of the recipients hit the page.

2 The “retroscope” is a camcorder connected to the TiVo and set on some delay, usually a minute or five minutes. Sound off. What ends up happening is that people do wild and crazy things for the camera, and then sit around to see themselves on the TV. Then they see themselves sitting around and waiting. There are so many silly gestures that just go unnoticed in the moment; a casual, sly ass scratching is a glaring and hilarious point of embarassment for the guilty. It causes certain people’s brains to melt.

Good weekend. Had a lot of fun, enjoyed the nice weather.

It rained most of the day today. There was some nice lightning to see, but it was all pretty far away. It’s the first time I can remember seeing lightning in Boston in a long, long time. The rain here sucks. It’s weak and pissy and hangs around for days. A nice good rainstorm, to say nothing of the severe thunderstorms, is one of the things I miss about Ohio. A storm would blow in, dump a ton of rain, lightning, and wind and go. Sigh.

Not going to rant about the death penalty today despite my outlet to do so; go read about it on everyone else’s web page.

Went to the airport today since Kara, Morgan and Kelly were stopping over on their way back from Italy. We had dinner at Legal’s and they got on their flight. It was nice to see them.

Interesting side story: Boston’s Logan International Airport has all of its international flights arrive at Terminal E. Shortly before Kara et al’s flight arrived, Ettore walked through the door from customs, for his flight was to arrive at about the same time. As he emerged from the domain of the United States Department of the Treasury, he walked right past me and ignored my calls of “Ettore! Ettore! Where are you going, Ettore! Italiano! Bambino! Do not leave me here alone!” but he kept going, right out the door, toward ground transport. A sorrow filled my heart. I wept.

Went to algiers with Jacob after work and got a ton of hacking done. Whee.
