swift boat veterans for my ass

Salon’s “Must Read” articles are generally pretty good reading, assuming you don’t mind their unabashedly left-wing stance, but today’s was particularly good.

On the hacking front, I’ve been mainly fixing bugs for our upcoming desktop, and I haven’t had a whole lot of time for Project Utopia stuff. A lot of good progress has been made by others, though: David and Kay continue to improve HAL, and someone just the other day announced a KDE equivalent to gnome-volume-manager. J5 has done a lot of nice work with printer autodetection in Rawhide/Fedora, which I’m really looking forward to. I hope we can integrate some of that work into the SUSE distros.

Larry and Trow have been here in Boston all week and if you keep track of the CVS commits list, you’ve seen that there has been quite a hackfest going on. Beagle, Dashboard, and F-Spot have been the main targets. If you haven’t checked out F-Spot lately, Run Do Not Walk to the CVS repo and give it a whirl. It’s really shaping up nicely. I think Larry is planning on doing a release soon.
