fiasco ‘04

Last weekend went to Utah and met up with Nat, Peach, Alex, Larry, and Toshok for some skiing and snowboarding.

Our cabin was… odd. It had beds for 15 people, but it only had three bedrooms. One bedroom had one bed, and the remainder were in the other two rooms, and those two rooms were connected by a door. So it’s a good thing that there were only six of us.

Both the cabin and the slopes were up a 15 mile winding mountain road, which was a little scary at night… there were just these cliffs that you could go off of. During the day, though, the views were absolutely stunning.

I skiied the first two days and snowboarded the third. The muscle memory for skiing is there, so once I did a couple of runs, I was feeling great on skis. Day 2 was a little trickier because me feet were killing me from the boots, and was a big reason why I snowboarded day 3. The first hour or so was tremendously difficult and exhausting and I hated it, but once I got that out of the way, I was doing much better. I still don’t feel very comfortable on my toe edge, but hopefully I’ll become more comfortable with more practice.

The big story of the trip, however, was my great Monopoly play. And with Larry, our domination of Trivial Pursuit. (Aside: the new Trivial Pursuit boards are so hideously ugly as to offend both man and God. Go back to the old board.)

Oh yeah, and Nat broke his right wrist.

Left: The happy-go-lucky Nat we all know and love, showing us his winter pantaloons.
Right: The monsterous one-armed pain killer junkie he has become.

I got to ride in the ambulance. Down the aforementioned curvy mountain road. That was pretty exciting.
