those ivory-tower eggheads have screwed us again

23 January 2005

“Blizzard warning!” they all said. “Twenty to thirty inches!” they warned. Surely this is another case of overzealous infotainment. Action News!

hmm, ok, maybe this time they weren’t overreacting

It’s hard to tell exactly how much snow we’ve gotten, because it’s so light and has been drifting a lot thanks to the heavy winds. My guess at this point is that we’re at about 30 inches. They’re estimating 25-35 inches total accumulation which seems pretty much on the money. I think it’s still snowing a little, but it might just be blowing snow off the nearby roofs.

When I went to bed last night, the entire backs of cars were pristine, but the fronts were a solid wall from the hood to the ground. Even today there is a small part of sidewalk visible at the corner, where the wind is constantly blowing. I opened my door and there was about a foot of snow, and while my front steps went down to the ground level, the snow did not.

it’s dark but it’s 11:30 am

I am prepared: I ordered a mountain of Chinese food last night. Oh General Tso, you’re a bloodthirsty foe, but your chicken is delectable!
