Based on Jacob’s endorsement last week I bought some new speakers for my office and moved the old 3-cd changer/tape/radio dealie down into my kitchen. I now have pretty good centralized music coverage of the house, missing only the bathroom at this point. Gotta figure that one out yet, but I do have some extra speakers, just nothing to power them yet.
They’re THX certified after all, but I didn’t truly appreciate the sound quality (particularly in the low range) until I serendipitously found my copy of Refused’s The Shape Of Punk To Come buried at the bottom of a box while hunting for an ethernet cable. I haven’t listened to the CD in easily 5 years… I very vividly remember listening to this CD, in MP3 form, at FULL VOLUME on my two very, very, very crappy computer speakers in my apartment in Columbus. Listening to it now, yeah, it still sounds like dishes breaking, hogs being slaughtered, and metal scraping against metal, but man is this CD well produced! It’s obvious now that it was recorded in a real studio and not somewhere outside, in the wind and driving rain, with all kind of static crackling through the mic and amp cables, sparks literally shooting out of the uncovered mixing board.
This has gone well.
Hey, by the way, if anyone has a copy of Jawbox’s For Your Own Special Sweetheart, hook a brother up. I must’ve lost it in one of my many moves. It’s out of print and I can’t find it anywhere around here.
