new house

24 April 2005

My parents are building a new house. I suggested to them that they take pictures of the building process and I’d post them here. So these posts will probably be boring to most of you, but you know what? I don’t care. It’s my blog and I’ll do what I want.

The new house is being built on the lot next to the current house. It was pretty much just woods, although if you went far enough you got to my dad’s garden. My dad had spent a good amount of time clearing out all the brush, and when I was visiting over Thanksgiving the hired guns came in to take out all the trees.

My dad sent me the first photos on 31 March.

On 2 April, they poured the footers.

On 15 April, they waterproofed and insulated the basement. Dad says that the walls are 11 courses of brick, about 7.5 feet tall.

And on Tuesday, the 19th, my dad sent me this one. He says, “Finally, those piles of dirt are gone. Most were 10-15 ft high. You’re
looking up the driveway into the garage. You can see the posts of the garden in the back-left.”

So that brings us up to date. I’ll post more photos as I get them, and I’ll try to keep on top of them this time, instead of falling behind terribly. Sorry family! You’ll be able to get all the house entries by going to http://joeshaw.org/category/new-house
