to play green day’s “time of your life” over and over again in your dorm room

Lego Star Wars: Best Video Game Ever.

The JSB show the other night was pretty great, despite the less than Canadian turnout. It was my first time seeing them live, and both Phil and Jacob said it was a good show, and they’ve seen the band probably half a dozen times each. I only wish they had played Onward Through the Fog. After the show Jacob introduced me to the band and we hung out with the keyboardist. Fun times.

Some sort of odd thing going on with a pirate radio station in or near my hometown. It’s not 100% clear to me what’s going on, but basically there was a station broadcasting talking shit about ClearChannel and the state of radio in Northeastern Ohio. And it’s crap. It was passable when I was in high school, but in the seven years since I’ve lived there ClearChannel has taken over everything. It’s painfully obvious that some of the stations are operated by a syndicated automated playlist somewhere remote. There are a few independent stations there… WKSU is run by Kent State and is the NPR affiliate, but it’s too boring to listen to all the time. There was a station run by the Streetsboro public school system which is/was pretty decent, but nothing along the lines of Emerson College’s WERS or Seattle’s KEXP.

Update: Apparently the pirate station is — or rather, was — run by ClearChannel itself. It looks like some clever guerilla marketing so that they can start yet another station in the area and claim it’s an alternative to their 20 other crap stations there. At least they know that people are sick of the homogenized radio in Ohio.
