i know what i said cause i said it

So after my little rant against VMware the other day, Philip helped me out with the 5.5 beta, which, as he says, works swimmingly on SUSE 10.0. The installation process still sucks: I have to run the same perl script as before, but it knows where to find my kernel build tree and how to work with it and the kernel modules don’t oops. I did a nice test install and played around with it and it’s a really nice piece of software.

With all the recent talk about the new VMware player I wanted to send my VM over to Jacob to use on the player. The only problem: I can’t figure out how to package up a VM to send it to someone else. I downloaded the pre-packaged browser VM that they provide, but it contains only two files. My VM contains 36 files. How do I package this up? Just tar up the whole directory? If I need to do something special, what would be great is to add a button to the workstation UI to do this for me. I can’t find a FAQ or anything about this on the VMware site. My VM is also 2.8 gigs, so I didn’t do a trial-and-error on which files I might need.

Also, for me, with 5.5, if I click on the “Snapshot manager”, it either crashes or wedges the UI. But it’s a beta, and that is seriously the only bug I’ve come across.
